Who We Are

The Bioinformatics Shared Resource (BSR) is a member of the Cancer Center Shared Resources. Our mission is to provide bioinformatics services to the other Shared Resources and to individual researchers throughout the Burnham Institute. Our services span the entire field of bioinformatics from gene analysis, pathway modelling, and microarray analysis to high-throughput screening and data management.

Support

Support for the BSR comes from four sources:

  • Cancer Center Support Grant
    • Basic level of bioinformatics support for Cancer Center projects
    • Training and classes
    • Support of common resources
  • Collaborative grants with Burnham PIs
    • CHAVI-ID
  • Grants awarded directly to the BSR
    • caBIG
  • Chargebacks
    • Covers projects and services that exceed the base level of support for Cancer Center members

Testimonials

"The class was very good"
Pedro Aza-Blamc, Ph.D, Director of Functional Genomics Resource at SBMRI, responded about Advanced Statistics I class presented by Stacy Xiayu Huang.

"Thank you so much for your prompt and expert help with the microarray analysis for me! The data look very interesting! The more I read about the genes that are up-regulated- the more I find correlations to our in vivo studies. This could possibly open up new areas of research for me!" Geetha Srikrishna Ph.D. Research Assistant Professor SBMRI, La Jolla, CA

"Alexey did a great job of analyzing data covering 48 known and likely CDG genes from 6 patients." (SNP and indel detection from exome sequencing). Hudson Freeze, Ph.D. Professor, Program Director, Genetic Disease, Sanford Children's Health Research Center

"We are very happy that Roy's expertise helped kick-start a substantial development project and that he stuck with it all the way to a happy ending" Franz Mueller, M.D. The Scripps Research Institute, San Diego, CA. Stem Cell Lab

"I am very pleased that Roy quickly got up to speed with the pig genome sequence, the basic biology of pulmonary hypertension and was able to tie it together with our microarray data" David Mann CEO Vascular Biosciences West, San Diego, CA

"Roy really helped us out by doing a RUSH analysis on a ~90 microarray dataset" Marcus Kaul Ph.D. Assistant Professor to the Infectious & Inflammatory Disease Center at the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute

"Thank you very much Roy and it is very helpful." Santhi Konduri, Ph.D. MD Anderson Orlando Health, Orlando, FL

"Alexey, Thought you would like to know that after the session yesterday, I went back to my office and entered some data into NextBio. The results were extremely interesting, providing support for a hypothesis that we had been pursuing. We are planning to include the results in a manuscript that we are starting to write up. Thanks a lot." Fred Levine, MD, PhD, Professor and Director, Sanford Children's Health Research Center, SBMRI, La Jolla, CA.
